Each year, I do a few travel groups, mostly cruises, that cruise not only to have a great vacation but to benefit an organization the group all supports.  In 2019, I had a group of over 100 teachers cruise on Carnival.  The group generated over $2000 dollars for their charity of choice, an after school program based in the Bahamas for kids between the ages of 7-12.  Another group, ballers for boxers, a group of 20 recreational basketball players, raised over $1700 for a local dog shelter that specializes in the boxer breed.  I had another group of 16 join them on the same cruise and they contributed another $1000!  In 2016, I had a church group raise over $30,000 for their church just by cruising!

Skeptics always think there is a catch to this, however, there really isn't.  Group cruising is a way to generate charity and funding that is unique, without having to directly ask people for donations.  How?  Its all done just by having a group all cruise on the same ship and date and the cruise line does the rest.  Once you reach 8 cabins, 16 guests, you are considered a group.  groups have special perks and funding that can all be allocated to one area.  Some groups choose to give it back to the cruiser, other groups are focused on a charity aspect.  This money is allocated prior to the cruise, a group leader is nominated and your travel agent will take care of the rest!  No catch, just travel and enjoy!

While on board, there are also ways to generate even more for your group.  First, schedule a group party in the venue of your choice, this is included in your cruise fare, so no extra cost!  Secondly, organize a 50/50 or a raffle or any number of activities that will be fun and generate money for your organization.  Some organizations have done games like poker, or cribbage, others will do silent auction, bingo or even candy bar sales.  You can choose!  Make it fun for the people in your group.  Award ceremonies are also a popular activity for the right organization.
